So – it’s now March 2012.  Two and a half years since I returned from my trip to Kisii and my visit to Home of Grace.  I can’t even begin to tell you all the things that have happened since then.  (The pictures in the masthead alone tell me how many changes have taken place here in Canada – my hair is grayer and shorter, my family has grown by one amazing daughter-in-law, I am teaching at a new school – the list goes on!  Craig will definitely have to add new pictures for me!)  But our connection with Edina in Kenya, begun with my initial visit in August 2009, has solidified and literally taken over our lives – in a wonderful way.  Friends and family have caught Edina’s vision that I saw first hand so many months ago and have contributed generously. Home of Grace Care Centre is now a Canadian not for profit organization that has been able to support Edina and her orphans in a fairly stable way, allowing them to have food, shelter, medical care and education.  But – more of all that later…

It’s time to start blogging again.  Because – in just two weeks – I leave for a five month trip to Africa.  Yup – FIVE.  First, with a “Refugee Learning Team” visiting refugee programs in Rwanda and Nairobi.  Then, the team returns to Canada and I travel to Kisii, to begin a four month stay at Home of Grace.  During that time I will stay with my great friend Edina, the director at Home of Grace Care Centre, experience life first-hand (again!) at the orphanage and volunteer at King of David Academy where the primary children attend school.  It will be a trip of a lifetime!

Stay tuned to this blog – I hope to report in from time to time with thoughts and pictures.

Until the next time,

Cathy
